Sheffield Crew 0-4 Secaucus FC - Game Report

Sheffield Park, Wayne – GSSL Semi Pro North’s second placed Secaucus FC kicked off its League Cup campaign with a four-nil away drubbing of familiar foe Sheffield Crew this past Sunday which allowed the Boys in Blue to take the top spot of their three team group.

Daniel Brown was spoiled with an embarrassment of riches as he had all of his players at his disposal this weekend with no injuries and no suspensions. Jeff East once again manned between the posts with a familiar backline of Andrew Errico, Thierno Cisse, Dustin Holbrook, and captain Steve Wallis in front of him. Controlling the middle of the park were Sean Suzuta, Gaston Haupert, Rafael De Oliveira, and Giuseppe Landolfo with Eugene Gormley and Christian Acuna up top.

Sean Suzuta kicked off scoring on the day with a wonder goal. The speedster was able to find some space up the left flank. The ball broke to him on the edge of the box and he coolly lofted it over the keeper and into the goal with the outside of his right boot, a tremendous exhibition of skill and placement.

The second goal came from the other side of the field as right back Steve Wallis and right midfield Boris Shabovta linked up well all game. After a nice buildup between the two, Shabovta led Wallis on an overlapping run up the flank with Wallis placing a pin-point cross into the box and into the path of an onrushing Eugene Gormley who after missing with his right foot, was able to put the ball into the net with his left.

Gormley went from receiver to provider on the third goal as he collected the ball with his back to goal in the attacking third of the field and skillfully threaded a through ball, freeing Shabovta for a one-v-one with the Sheffield keeper. Shabovta was able to take the ball around the stranded keeper and finished on an open net from close range.

The second half saw only one goal as Secaucus FC started to rotate players and play more of a possession game. Senegalese center back Thierno Cisse stepped up for a thirty-yard free kick attempt and converted with an arrow of a shot, which hit just inside the upper-ninety.

This victory puts SFC in a good position in their group in this year’s Semi Pro League Cup. The team is off the next two weekends with a bye week next weekend, and Memorial Day the weekend after. The next game will be on May 31st as SFC travel 80 Miles south just west of Seaside Heights to take on the mighty Jersey Shore Boca in the final game of the League Cup group stage.
