Sheffield Crew 3 - 6 Secaucus FC - Game Report

Sheffield Park, Wayne – The Boys in Blue from Secaucus kicked off 2009 in great form as they took on GSSL Semi-Pro Central’s Sheffield Crew in a friendly match in preparation for the upcoming regular season. Both teams took a little while to get going as the first twenty minutes were spent feeling each other out.

Secaucus FC opened their account in the 17th minute after Romanian left midfielder new boy Adrian Alexandru crossed it into the Sheffield box and a defender mistakenly knocked it past a diving keeper into his own net.

About fifteen minutes later in the 31st minute, Christian Acuna laid the ball off to Sean Suzuta who put in a crisp shot to beat the keeper from the edge of the area.

Eugene Gormley was next on the list finding himself in the right place at the right time, like all good forwards, pouncing on a spilled save off a Mike Mendez shot.

Just three minutes later in the 53rd, Eugene was at it again on yet another rebound, this time coming off an Andrew Errico shot.

Sheffield was finally able to put together some offense as they scored in the 56th minute, but just two minutes later, Eugene Gormley completed his natural hat-trick scoring off a Boris Shabovta assist.

Secaucus FC shuffled it’s lineup putting in several trialists, allowing Sheffield to break through a disorganized team in the 63rd and 72nd. However SFC was able to close out the game in the 80th minute with a goal after Christian Acuna tapped in a goal from a beautiful Adrian Alexandru cross into the box.

All in all, it was a good game for Secaucus who had a very strong first half. Several newcomers stood out and many of SFC’s core players from the fall showed they are ready to continue the season in good form. Daniel Brown can now go into this Sunday’s tilt with Hackensack in a confident mood.
